At the end of June this year, Eglė Vaičiūnė, a methodologist at the Natural Sciences Laboratory of the Marijampolė Regional STEAM Open Access Centre, took part in the training course for the methodologists of the Lithuanian STEAM Network’s Centres, entitled “Micro-organisms: friends and enemies”. The training took place at Vilnius University, Life Sciences Centre, Didactics Centre.
The opening remarks were made by Dr. R. Stanislauskienė, President of the Lithuanian Society of Microbiology. Dr. Jonita Stankevičiūtė talked about the benefits and harms of microorganisms. Associate Prof. Dr. Renata Gudiukaitė presented the diversity of bacterial morphology and the methods of “staining” and microscopy. Together with her assistants, PhD student Vilius Malūnavičius and students Antanas Padaiga and Jokūbs Daunors, she helped the methodologists to prepare bacterial specimens from environmental samples and observe them under the microscope. Doctoral student Arnas Kunevičius shared his knowledge of the human gut microbiota and its research.
We welcome the opportunity for STEAM centre methodologists to develop their competences in the context of STEAM education and thus ensure the transfer of STEAM knowledge to both students and educators.
